Public Meeting: Proposed City of Winter Garden Wastewater Facility Plan and Capital Finance Plan Notice is hereby given that the City Commissioners for the City of Winter Garden, Florida will hold a special meeting at City Hall, 300 W. Plant Street, Winter Garden, Florida on May 26, 2022, at 5:30 pm, for the purpose of considering the approval of the proposed City of Winter Garden Wastewater Facility Plan and Capital Finance Plan. This public meeting will include a discussion of the Wastewater Facilities Plan and the financial impact on system users. The public meeting is intended to afford the opportunity to individuals to be heard on the economic and social effects of the location, design, and environmental impact of the wastewater system improvements. A portion of the funding for this project is anticipated to come from the State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan program. Financial impacts on utility users will be presented at the hearing. Reports, documents, and data relevant to the discussion are available for public review at Winter Garden City Hall. Other business which may properly come before the Commission will also be addressed. All interested persons are invited to attend and be heard. Ways to Celebrate National Preservation Month May is dedicated to National Preservation Month, also known as Historic Preservation Month, to celebrate the nation’s heritage through historic places. To celebrate, organizations across the country promote a variety of activities at the local, state, and national level throughout the month. Here in the City of Winter Garden, there are several ways to celebrate the origins of your hometown and become involved in preserving it: - Visit the history exhibits currently on display at City Hall and the Winter Garden Heritage Museum. Visit the Central Florida Railroad Museum to see amazing artifacts. Free admission always.
- Learn about volunteer opportunities at downtown’s two history museums and the history center dedicated to preserving our community’s history.
- Sign up for a walking or biking history tour through the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation.
- Take the self-guided Winter Garden Heritage Trees Walking Tour. Maps available at City Hall, downtown museums, and at bloomandgrow.club.
- Check your attic, basement, garage, or other outbuildings for historical documents or photos that may contribute to your community’s history, and share them with the history center.

National Preservation Month Exhibit at City Hall | HISTORY PRESERVED: New Images of Winter Garden’s Architectural Legacy.The exhibit features 25 photographs that pay homage to our architectural legacy, including the five winning entries of the 2021 Historic Preservation Photo Contest. The contest was conducted during the City’s recent re-survey of the Downtown Historic District, in which local photographers submitted images of the iconic structures that have been standing for more than a century.

Winter Garden PAL Youth Summer Camp Registration Deadline is May 20 The Winter Garden Police Athletic League (WGPAL) will host an 8-week summer camp for qualifying youth. The camp is available AT NO COST to children ages 5-15 residing within the city limits and receiving government assistance.

Drinking Water WeekThe City of Winter Garden is observing Drinking Water Week, May 1 – 7, by recognizing the vital role tap water plays in daily life, the infrastructure that is required to carry it to and from homes and businesses, and the critical work that our water professionals accomplish to ensure the delivery of quality tap water.
Your water department works diligently around the clock to ensure high-quality drinking water is “there when you need it.” It produces your morning coffee, cools you off after a workout, warms you up in a bath, cleans your fruit and vegetables, and is just there when you need it. Drinking Water Week is a good opportunity to recognize the vital role tap water plays in our daily lives.

How to Dispose of Appliances and Large Electronics The City of Winter Garden will gladly dispose of old TVs, appliances, computers, and other large electronics you no longer want at no charge; however, you must schedule a pick-up. Many residents mistakenly think the bulk truck will get these items on their large item collection day; but a special appliance/electronics-only truck is assigned to remove them. To keep your neighborhood tidy, please schedule a pick-up before placing at the curb.

AQUATICS – Pools open this month!
Aqua Boot Camp Based on speed, power, and strength rather than rhythm and choreography, Aqua Fitness Boot Camp incorporates pyramid training, kickboxing drills, interval training, power drills, speed bursts, and strength exercises. While this class requires no coordination, it does demand a lot of stamina and is great for participants who need a new challenge and prefer intense, athletic workouts. This class will push you to your limits!

Aqua Zumba Activate your urge for variety! Aqua Zumba offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength, and endurance conditioning. City Hall Art in Public Places Gallery Premieres History Preserved: New Images of Winter Garden’s Architectural LegacyThe preservation of Winter Garden’s rich heritage is what makes it the vibrant, dynamic community that exists today. A new exhibit premiering today in City Hall’s Art in Public Places Gallery, History Preserved: New Images of Winter Garden’s Architectural Legacy, pays homage to Winter Garden’s architectural legacy. The exhibit of 25 photographs displays local historic treasures and depicts the seven-month historical survey process of Winter Garden’s commercial and residential historic districts conducted in 2021. The exhibit includes the five winning entries to the 2021 Historic Preservation Photo Contest conducted in conjunction with the survey. The contest garnered nearly 200 submissions. The contents of History Preserved: New Images of Winter Garden’s Architectural Legacy will be archived and preserved alongside the results of the historic survey. The 2021 historic survey was conducted to update information documented in a similar project completed in 1994, which led to the creation of the Winter Garden Downtown Historic District and a listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Duke Energy to Conduct Tree Trimming in Winter Garden With hurricane season approaching, Duke will be conducting tree trimming in Winter Garden to minimize the possibility of storm outages. As always, they will strive to balance aesthetics, sensitivity for the environment, and tree health with ensuring that the households and businesses that depend on them receive safe, reliable power.

Call 811 Before You DigIf you are planning an outdoor house project (large or small) that requires digging, it is the law that you first Call 811 at least two full business days before you begin digging. This allows Sunshine 811 to notify its member utility companies to mark their lines, pipes, or cables where you plan to dig. This is a FREE service. Failure to dig safely can result in costly damages and repairs, loss of essential utility services, and even serious injuries to you and your neighbors. Established in 1993 by the State of Florida, Sunshine 811 is a call center and education resource that provides essential information on safe digging and prevents damages to underground facilities. Use QR Code to Download Your Mobile Citizen AppThe Mobile Citizen app is a convenient tool to submit a work request to the City or have questions answered. For example, next time you see a pothole, a broken sign, a malfunctioning streetlight, or a leaky hydrant, you can notify the City through the app.
The app can also be used to inform the City that your trash was missed, schedule a pick-up for a discarded appliance or large electronic, inquire about a code enforcement concern, and more.
