[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Black History Month in Winter Garden

The City of Winter Garden is hosting a number of family-friendly activities in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Black History Month.  The City is including some other activities that may be of interest to your family.

Please join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as commemorating Black History Month with the following:   

Minister Anthony Hodge of Finding the Lost Sheep Ministry recited Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech “I Have a Dream” on the steps of City Hall, and you can view the recording here: MLK Jr "I Have a Dream" Recording

Art in Public Places presents Despite the Obstacles: Educating African American Students in the Days of Segregation. 

The exhibit features over 20 photographs documenting the challenges and successes experienced by African American students prior to the integration of Orange County’s public schools in 1969. 

Art Exhibit Displayed from January 4 – February 26 |Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, at Winter Garden’s Public Art Gallery at City Hall, 300 W. Plant St.

The Winter Garden Library is hosting I Have a Dream, a family-friendly virtual program to celebrate the life and dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with stories and crafts inspired by your own dreams, the importance of peace and togetherness. Recommended for ages 6-12.

I Have a Dream Virtual Craft Class on Thursday, January 14, at 4:00 pm

This event occurs online through Zoom and 24-hour advance registration is required at https://attend.ocls.info/event/4731689  Include email address and an email will be sent before the event with information on how to join.
