The Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program educates Floridians about science-based, environmentally friendly landscaping practices and encourages them to conserve and protect our water resources by applying Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Principles in their landscapes.

November Florida Friendly Landscaping Workshops

“Basics of Square Foot Gardening”

Residential Horticulturist, Kelly Greer, will be hosting one landscaping workshop in November, curtesy of UF/IFAS Extension of Orange County. The Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program will help residents make better decisions in landscaping practices with guiding tips in plant choice, irrigation practices, fertilizer applications and pest control. Square Foot Gardening is "a system of gardening” developed by Mel Bartholomew that uses 4 foot by 4 foot plots subdivided into 1-foot squares for growing a specific number of a particular type of vegetable to maximize space and facilitate ease of maintenance." Come and learn how to grow more fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers in less space than you thought possible!

Workshop is scheduled for November 10th at 6 to 7:30 p.m. All landscaping workshops are $5 per household and open to all Winter Garden residents and businesses. Workshops are held in Jessie Brock Community Center Building at 310 Dillard Street, Winter Garden, FL 34787. December Florida Friendly Landscaping Workshop

“Tomatoes: In Search of the Perfect Tomato”

Tomatoes are the favorite vegetable in the home vegetable garden. Some like the taste, some like the unique shapes and colors and some like the challenge. Learn about the history of the tomato, what tomato varieties are best adapted to the Central Florida climate and how to best grow them.
